Cameron Lake Barrier Free Outdoor Recreation Site
In 2013, the province of N.S. gave ARA permission to use Crown Land located around a portion of Cameron Lake in Pinevale, N.S. to build an access road, parking space and boat launch for public use. This year the ARA would like to expand this site into a barrier-free outdoor recreation site that will include an accessible picnic shelter, walkway, aluminum ramp and floating dock for inclusive public enjoyment of the natural beauty that is Cameron Lake. The ARA members volunteer their time to keep the site clean and to monitor usage throughout the year. There has been a significant amount of usage by residents of the Town & County of Antigonish since the access road, parking area and boat launch have been built. Activities include, recreational fishing, boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, birding, nature walks along the shoreline, as well as simply enjoying the fresh air around the lake. Some community groups who have made great use of the lake are the following:
- CACL – Canadian Association for Community Living – Antigonish. Since the development of the access road, parking area and boat launch site, the CACL crew have been out on the water canoeing throughout the summer months.
- St.F.X.U. have also been utilizing the access road, parking area and boat launch 2-3 times per week during September and October.
2022 UPDATE: Funding has been confirmed and the project will be completed in August 2023.
